Altar Society

"You have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, and to the assembly of the first-born who are enrolled in heaven, and to a judge who is God of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect, and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks more graciously than the blood of Abel" (Hebrews 12:22-24).

The purpose of the Altar Society is to promote spirituality and sociability among the members of St. Peter Parish and to assist the pastor with the care of the sanctuary and the church.

Activities include the care and upkeep of church linens and altar boy garments, display of votive candles, adornment of the altar of repose on Holy Thursday, church cleaning and decorating at Christmas and Easter, and fundraising events. The proceeds from these events have been used to furnish new vestments for the priests and deacons, altar boy cassocks and surplices, and liturgical supplies for the church. Individual volunteer Altar Society members participate in Adoration at 10:00 am on the First Friday of the month. Masses are offered throughout the year for the deceased and living members of the Altar Society.

The Altar Society also moderates the Martha Circle. The members of Martha Circle assist in serving funeral luncheons when occasionally requested for parishioners mourning the loss of loved ones.

The Altar Society has created beautiful St. Peter Mass intention note cards. These are available for purchase in the parish office for $2 each or in a package of five cards for $10 payable to the St. Peter Altar Society. These cards make an excellent gift. Proceeds are used towards new cassocks or other needs for the Sacred Liturgy at our parish.
